Dublin Bay Buoy is a free marine weather service that delivers real-time buoy data from Dublin Bay via Telegram. This policy explains how we handle your data.

Data we collect

We do not store personal data. All usage analytics are fully anonymous and cannot be linked back to any individual.

What we do store

• Anonymous usage counts — command names and timestamps with a non-reversible daily session hash. This lets us count approximate daily unique sessions without knowing who you are.
• Anonymous feedback — if you use the /feedback command, only the message text and timestamp are stored. No user identity is attached.
• Wind alert preferences — if you set a wind alert with /alert, we store your Telegram user ID and wind threshold so the bot can send you a notification. This is the minimum data required to deliver the alert. Your user ID is deleted immediately when you remove your alert with /alert off.
• Marine weather data — buoy sensor readings from the Irish Lights MetOcean API, which contain no personal information.

Third-party services

• Telegram Bot API — processes messages between you and the bot. See Telegram's Privacy Policy.
• Irish Lights MetOcean API — provides marine sensor data. No personal data is sent to this service.

Data retention

• Usage analytics — retained indefinitely as aggregate anonymous data.
• Wind alerts — your Telegram user ID is stored only while your alert is active. Use /alert off to delete it immediately.
• Feedback — retained indefinitely as anonymous text.

Cookies and tracking

This website and the Telegram Mini App do not use cookies, analytics, or any form of tracking.

Children's privacy

This service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Your rights (GDPR)

The only personal data we store is your Telegram user ID if you have an active wind alert. You can delete this at any time by sending /alert off. All other data is fully anonymous. If you have questions, contact us below.

Dublin Bay Buoy provides marine weather information for general reference only.

• Not a safety service. Do not rely on this bot for navigation or safety-critical decisions. Always consult official marine forecasts and Coast Guard channels.
• Data accuracy. Buoy data is sourced from Irish Lights. We display it as received and cannot guarantee its accuracy or availability.
• Availability. The service is provided on a best-effort basis with no uptime guarantee.
• No warranty. The service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind.

Data Deletion

If you have an active wind alert, send /alert off to the bot to delete your Telegram user ID immediately. All other data we store is anonymous and cannot be linked to you. If you have any concerns, contact us below.
